The Vortex Dome

 

This year’s STATE OF THE ARTS AMPLIFY! theme focuses on emerging arts and media trends through a provocative dialogue about the impact of creativity, innovation and digital technologies on 21c education, human transformation, and the future of our cities. The event will culminate in a networking reception and a showcase of immersive performances in the Vortex Dome.

THE NEUROSCIENCE OF CREATIVITY – Keynote presentation by Dr. Robert Bilder of UCLA’s Semel Institute

Dr. Bilder leads a team of investigators at UCLA’s Tennenbaum Center for the Biology of Creativity and will share their continuing discoveries, giving us deep insight into our own creative innovation.

CONSCIOUSNESS, CREATIVITY & MINDFULNESS – Diana Winston, Director of MARC: Mindfulness Awareness Research Clinic at UCLA

Diana will lead the audience in an exercise to help us access the relationship between creativity and Mindfulness, in the interest of stimulating innovative and critical thinking in our own lives.

THE CYBERHERO LEAGUE – Dana Klisanin PhD, Executive Director, c3:MindLab

The cyberhero archetype brings together some of the best qualities and characteristics of heroes (benefiting others and acting selflessly) with some of the most potent abilities of superheroes (dual-persona, shape-shifting, bi-location, and super-human speed).


THE POWER OF THE NARRATIVE STORY – Sandra Buffington, USC Hollywood, Health & Society

Sandra will conduct an exploration of the importance of story and the role of the writer in helping shape the future.

EDTECH & 21c

Through an examination of case study MYTHIC CHALLENGES our panel wiil also reveiw 21c educational skill set includes Immersive Education and SEL (Social Emotional Learning) — what are they, and why are they so critical to the future of education.

Case Study:  MYTHIC CHALLENGES – Mythic Challenges is an educational curruculum designed to bring together The Millennium Project’s 15 Global Challenges with Mythology and Storytelling.  The idea for Mythic Challenges was first introduced in last year’s Think Tank session.

Discover the transformational power of music through the electronic music and dance culture. What makes this musical genre such a powerful and popular art form?  How can we enhance our education strategies, and inspire today’s youth by incorporating the power of the artform into the educational space?

ARTS and THE CITY

What is the importance of arts and media in the creation of an economically and culturally rich community? How can the creative community serve as a living think tank for Los Angeles, creating a model for other metropolitan environments? This discussion will lead into the introduction of f2: FUTUREFEST, a proposed Los Angeles-based showcase for emerging arts and media.
